39. Imperative Verbs (Positive, Negative)

The imperative verb form is used as a command.

The Positive Imperative Form

For example:
“go to the shop!” – கடைக்கு போ!
“sit on the chair!” – கதிரையில் உட்கார்!
“talk to me!” – என்னிடம் பேசு!

The singular form is used when the person you are addressing is familiar or a child, and is simply the root of the verb. The plural form is made by adding -உங்கள் to the singular form, and is used to be polite or in formal situations.

The Sandhi rules apply in all cases except that all verbs ending in -உ, lose their final -உ, when the suffix -உங்கள் is added to them.
