Verbs 1-4 form the infinitive by adding -அ to the root. Verbs in class 5 are exceptions. Class 5 irregulars: வா, போ, நில், வில் கேட்க, நிற்க, விற்க
Verbs Classes 6 and 7 add -க்க to the root to form infinitives.
Negative imperative singular made by addition of -தே to the infinitive. Negative imperative plural by adding -ஆதீர்கள் to the infinitive.

E.g. திருக்குறள் திருவள்ளுவரால் இயற்றப்பட்டது. – Thirukkural was composed/written by Thiruvalluvar. E.g. என் கேள்வி இவனை கோபப்படுத்தி விட்டது. – My question has made him angry. |

This can be translated using the word ‘try’ as in seeking to do some X. E.g. இவன் இல்லாமல் நாங்கள் விளையாட பார்ப்போம்! – We will try to play without him E.g. நான் ஒரு கேக் செய்ய பார்க்கிறேன். – We are trying to / looking to make a cake. |
| [15] | Infinitive to imply relevance / connection | [A…infinitive] B….finite-verb —Translates as either: (1) Purpose: B did X so that A would do Y” (2) Connection: ‘A did Y and B did X’, or ‘while A did Y, B did X’, etc. —The precise nature of that relevance/connection must be inferred from the context. E.g. குழந்தை அழ, தாய் குறைவாக தூங்கினாள். When the child cried the mother slept less. E.g. அவன் விளையாட, பாலா படித்தான். – While he played, Bala studied.
