The ablative (from) case

Added to nouns, the ablative case translates as ‘from’.
→ இலிருந்து (irrational) (from)
→ இல், இடமிருந்து, இலிருந்து, இருந்து (rational) (from)

E.g. அவளிடமிருந்து எனக்கு ஒரு பழம் கிடைத்தது – I got a fruit from her
E.g. அவர் யாழ்ப்பாணத்திலிருந்து வருகிறார் – He comes from Jaffna

Constructions using the Ablative case:

1. A-ablative B வரை
   • Translates as ‘from A (up) to B’
   • A முதல் ‘A first’ may be used instead of A-ablative.
   • In this construction, வரை may be used with the following suffixes: வரையில், வரையிலும் , வரைக்கும்
   • E.g.  வடக்கில் இமய மலையிலிருந்து தெற்கில் கோதாவரி ஆறு வரை ஆரிய மக்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள்.
   • E.g. தெற்கே கோதாவரி ஆற்றிலிருந்து கன்னியா குமரி வரை திராவிட மக்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள்.
